Indy Releases Debut Song “Threads”
New Zealand singer-songwriter India Yelich O'Connor, who is the younger sister of New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde, has released her debut song “Threads” as Indy.
After teasing the track on September 14, she finally shared the full version.
The track was written by India Yelich O'Connor, Josh Grant and Lizzy Land. Produced by Josh Grant.
“I wrote this song when I was going through a very on-off relationship for years,” India Yelich O'Connor explained of the song. “When I think of this song, I think of a passionate argument, miscommunication, the excitement of New York City night life. A toxic, messy love affair. Flashbacks of the moments shared together vs being out surrounded by friends, always caught in between. This song is so special to me as it depicts what being in love at 23 feels like; chaotic, hopeful, passionate.”
She comtinued, “I've always had a very distinct voice but now, at 23, I finally feel I know exactly what I'm trying to say.”
- India Yelich O'Connor left her native New Zealand for Los Angeles five years ago, before eventually moving on to New York City, where she now resides.
She shared on social media, “i've been secretly working away at music for 4 years and i'm finally ready to share this part of me with you. This song is about the ups and downs of being in love at 23. I think of a passionate argument, waiting for a text, going to east village bars with friends in NYC, the chaos & beauty of how the night could unfold. Walking home at 1am with music blasting in your headphones and just watching the world go by. I remember going to the studio with a poem and the lovely Lizzy Land helped me form it into this song along with Josh Grant with the dream synths!! Miro Mackie for mixxxxing. I knew right after we made it that this was the first thing that had to come out. I hope you love it as much as I have loved living with it this past year.”
