Marian Hill Releases New Album “why can't we just pretend?”: Streaming
American synth-pop duo Marian Hill, consisting of Samantha Gongol and Jeremy Lloyd, released their third studio album “why can't we just pretend?” on April 13, 2022.
It is their first album in four years since the 2018 album “Unusual”.
The album comprises 12-track featuring guest appearances from Steve Davit, Baby Tate, Kemba, GASHI and Luke Tennyson.
Produced by Jeremy Lloyd and Luke Tennyson.
The duo wrote the songs of the album during the pandemic. Jeremy Lloyd said, the songs that made the new album are truly the best of the best of almost three years of songwriting.
The duo told Emertainment Monthly about the album in an interview. Jeremy Lloyd said, “I think it's a lot more mature. I think there's a lot of fun and theatricality in our earlier stuff. Which was sexy, fun, cool music. I think the more we write and grow the more we are able to get personally intimate with our songs. There are songs on our last EP and this album that mean a lot to us.”- Samantha Gongol continued, “We also lean into more poppy aspects and hip-hop influences. I feel like on this album it sort of distilled everything we sort of do well. We don't take ourselves too seriously too, other than those songs that are more sentimental.”
Jeremy Lloyd added, “But there's more emotional range. Like 'Omg' is almost like a parody of a Marian Hill song. But we also have more serious self-reflective music. So, pretty much everything in between.”
The duo embarks on 18 date summer tour in support of the album. The tour kicks off at Neumos in Seattle on July 12, 2022 and will wrap up at 9:30 Club in Washington on August 6, 2022.
