MotoGP Brno: Marc Marquez Takes Pole Position at Automotodrom Brno
The Round 10 on MotoGP 2017, Monster Energy Motorrad Grand Prix Qualifying ran at Automotodrom Brno on August 5. Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) took his fourth pole position of the 2017 MotoGP season with 1'54.981s. Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) was 2nd position behind Marquez by 0.092s. Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) was 3rd position his teammate 0.138s down.
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) was best of the Ducati riders in fourth, 0.460s behind Marquez. Following Dovizioso, Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) took 5th position, starting in 2nd row tomorrow.
Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team) had that laptime deleted for exceeding track limits at Turn 14. He eventually qualified sixth, 0.571s off the pace.
Marc Marquez (P1):
“This is the best way to start the second half of this season after the summer break. This weekend I’m feeling good with the bike in the wet and dry. Pole position is important but also the pace was good. We tried a few things on the bike but we went back for quali because in FP4 on the second run I didn’t feel comfortable. The aim is to be on the podium but after checking everyone’s rhythm today, why not the victory! The weather will be a question mark because it looks like it will be unstable but I think we’re ready in both conditions to fight for a good place. I hope it’s dry and I know my teammate has a good rhythm, and the Yamaha riders, but we’re ready.”
Valentino Rossi (P2):
“The weekend was not so bad. Yesterday I felt quite comfortable, today we improved and at the end of FP3 I saw I had good speed with the softer tyre. So I tried in qualifying to get on the front row – and qualifying was good! I enjoyed it, the bike wasn’t so bad and the last lap was a good one. Starting on the front row is important for tomorrow because I think the top seven can fight for the podium. So the small advantage of starting on the front row could be important. I think the tyre choice is open and depends on the temperature. The important thing is to understand the conditions tomorrow – it looks like the forecast isn’t fantastic but I hope for a dry race, although in FP1 in the wet I was quite strong.”
Dani Pedrosa (P3):
“I’m happy overall, especially about today’s qualifying. Normally it’s tighter but today we were able to do four laps…today the track was a bit strange, maybe it was too hot, and there were a lot of crashes - but we were able to do a good job and test tyres. My teammate and the Yamahas had good pace in practice and for tomorrow we have to wait to see the weather, which will be important. The temperature seems it will be lower so we have to wait on the tyre choice, but we need to stay focused for any different conditions. From now on every race is super important. We can see in the first practice the laptimes of a lot of riders were competitive, so we have to take the chances when they come.”
