World Surf League the Championship Tour the 2nd stop, Rip Curl Newcastle Cup took place at Newcastle, Australia between April 1 and 11, 2021.
In Men's Final, Italo Ferreira (BRA) defeated Gabriel Medina (BRA) with 14.94 points and took his first victory of Rip Curl Pro since 2018.
Italo Ferreira said after the Final, “This guy's (Gabriel Medina) a machine, he pushes me a lot. It's going to be a good run, for sure, we have three more events in Australia.”
Reigning world champion John John Florence (HAW) was eliminated by rookie Morgan Cibilic (AUS) on Round of 32. After that, Morgan Cibilic advanced to Semifinals, but took down by Gabriel Medina.
While Women's Final, rookie Isabella Nichols defeated 7-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) in Quarterfinals and Keely Andrew (AUS) in Semifinals, and advanced to the Final for the first time.
But Carissa Moore (HAW) beat Isabella Nichols (AUS) with 15.73 points, and complained her first victory of 2021 season.
Carissa Moore said after the Final, “Oh my gosh it feels amazing, I don't know what I expected coming into this event but I was just taking it heat by heat and it feels so good to be standing number one a the end of this contest.”- wyzMy6WMuaY
