Barry Gibb Teams Up With Dolly Parton for New Version of Bee Gees' “Words”
- Bee Gees' Barry Gibb teamed up with American country music singer-songwriter Dolly Parton to release a new version of “Words”.
The song will appear on Barry Gibb's new album “Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers' Songbook, Vol. 1”, which is due out on January 8, 2021.
The original version of the song was released by Bee Gees in 1968. It was written by written by Barry, Robin & Maurice Gibb.
The song was the Bee Gees third UK top 10 hit and reached No. 1 in Germany, Canada, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
Dolly Parton shared on social media, “I was honored when my dear friend Barry Gibb asked me to join him for a special version of “Words” on his new album! Listen to our version of the Bee Gees classic.”
- The new album comprises of 12-track, featuring guest appearances from Olivia Newton-John, Sheryl Crow, Miranda Lambert, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, Keith Urban, Alison Krauss, Little Big Town, Jay Buchanan and Tommy Emmanuel.
Barry Gibb said of the album, “From the first day we stepped into RCA Studios in Nashville (the very place where Elvis, Willie, Waylon, Roy, the Everly Brothers and so many other legends made their magic) the album took on a life of its own.”
He continued, “I couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity to work with Dave and all the artists who stopped by. They were all incredibly generous with their time and talent. They inspired me more than words can express. I feel deep down that Maurice and Robin would have loved this album for different reasons. I wish we could have all been together to do it… but I think we were.”
