Rudimental & Skepsis Premiere New Song “Vex” featuring MIST & Popcaan on BBC Radio 1
London-based drum and bass band Rudimental, consisting of Piers Aggett, Kesi Dryden and Leon 'Locksmith' Rolle, teamed up with London-based DJ Skepsis to premiere a new song “Vex” featuring British rapper MIST and Jamaican DJ Popcaan on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
This marks the second collaboration between Rudimental and Skepsis, following "Green & Gold" released back in February.
The song will appear on Rudimental's upcoming fifth studio album, which is set to be released in 2025.
It was written by Andre Sutherland, Billen Ted, Conor Bellis, George Conway, Kesi Dryden, Leon Rolle, Olivia Divine, Piers Aggett, Rhys Sylvester and Scott Jenkins. Produced by Rudimental, Skepsis, and Slim Typical.
Rudimental said of the song, “This tune was made for the pub and when you hear in the club it will knock your head off.”
Piers Aggett told Jack Saunders about the song, “It was a session we did not too long ago with Skepsis, and we were just making, making some vibes together. We obviously did 'Green & Gold' with him, and MIST has walked through and laid this crazy verse down, and it's kind of took a whole journey from them, really.”- Kesi Dryden added, “We've wanted to get missed on a track for so long. We've had so many rave sessions we've missed. We've been for with him, and we said we've got to get in the studio at some point. So the fact that we've got him on this track is a massive for us, person.”
He said of Popcaan, “As another person that we wanted to get on a few tracks, we've actually done a few tracks with Popcaan that we haven't released, so it'll be interesting to get the views of everyone running. And I guess it's a record that's done in good rudimental fashion. You don't expect these two eyes to come together on a drum and bass track misses from the UK rap scene, and then you've got Popcaan from the reggae scene, and then us. So it's a concoction that's going to make you brave and it's going to pop your heads off just like this.” -
Locksmith said of the new album, “Early next year, I think we'll be coming with a new Rudimental album, and something that we're super excited about. And as Piers was saying, like, we're just having fun again. Sometimes you can get a bit lost in where you're going, and this new album is just back to us, like, having fun.”
