Maren Morris Releases New EP “Intermission”
American singer-songwriter Maren Morris released her new EP “Intermission” on August 2, 2024.
The EP is the second project after leaving country music, following the 2023 EP “The Bridge”.
The record is also her first release since her divorce and coming out as bisexual.
The EP comprises a 5-track, featuring a guest appearance from American singer-songwriter Julia Michaels, produced by Evan Blair, Joel Little, and Naomi McPherson.
Maren Morris said of the EP, “Intermission is the distillation of the strangest year of my life. I decided to hit the scariest reset button I could have ever conceptualized and there was no looking back. The lengths one will go to feel joy again are sometimes desperate and terrifying as all get out, but we all deserve peace in these very short few trips around the sun. Here's my heart’s journey and gamut of emotions in 5 songs. As I weave through loss, catharsis, sexuality and gratitude, I hope you can hear the light coming back to me in these stories and somewhere, perhaps, see it mirrored back in you.”- She said of the EP title, “Calling this project Intermission was intentional. It’s a break in the act, and for me, it’s definitely an act break and new chapter of my life, and I’m so ready to see what’s on the other page.”
She continued, “I just am so proud of this music. It wasn’t easy to write, because I’m going through a lot, and this is the diary of that. But it’s also the most fun music as well as the most heartbreaking because I'm allowing myself to go there - ’cause I don’t have to protect anyone anymore. It’s just about my feelings.” -
Maren Morris explained about some tracks.
“cut!” feturing Julia Michaels
“‘Cut!’ is about me holding myself together through the day, looking well-rested, not a hair out of place, not canceling any plans with friends because that’s how well I want you to think I’m doing,” she shared in a press release. “Perhaps those things are all true, but at night, I let the mask slip and let myself scream or fall apart to let the steam out of the kettle.”
“i hope i never fall in love”
“It’s a bittersweet heartbreaker because I’m in self-protection mode but still want to feel things. So throwing parties, going home with a stranger, popping champagne, whatever we need to do to process our trauma, it’s not a pretty road to healing. I, of course, do want to fall in love again, but I can’t put my heart through it just yet, so here’s a number about this strange but constructive (and destructive) window of my life.”
