  • Donovan Woods Announces New Album “Things Were Never Good If They're Not Good Now”, Shares New Song “Rosemary”

  • Canadian folk singer-songwriter Donovan Woods has announced that his new album “Things Were Never Good If They're Not Good Now” will be released on July 12, 2024 via End Times Music.

It is his first album in four years since the 2020 album “Without People”.
The album comprises a 11-track, featuring guest appearances from William Prince and Madi Diaz, co-produced by longtime collaborator James Bunton.
Donovan Woods said, “I struggle with the character I inhabit in my songs. He's likeable and wise, I am often anything but. That's true in my private life, too. I'm not always honest about feeling guilt, fear and shame. I don't like having needs. I think this is a trap many men fall into. I ignore my feelings until they run over and I'm angry. Much of my songwriting is about the language I use in place of actually feeling sad. I sing myself into a person I can love. I've been trying to say my feelings out loud. That seems simple, I find it hard. I practice by acknowledging when I'm happy. I'll say 'This is nice,' or, 'I'm having fun', or, 'Buddy, things were never good if they're not good now.'”
  • From the album, he released the first single called “Rosemary” along with a music video February 28, 2024.
The track was written by Donovan Woods, and Connor Seidel who also produced it. The accompanying video was directed by Brittany Farhat.
“Have you ever had a fight by text message? And it's long, and existential,” Donovan Woods said of the song. “Someone did something wrong and maybe that's it. Maybe the bond can't be repaired. Well this song is about returning home to someone after having one of those, and offering yourself up. It's about finally admitting all your faults, showing your actual self and asking, can you still love me? And really wanting an answer either way.”
