  • Cannons Releases New Album “Heartbeat Highway”

  • Los Angeles-based alt-pop band Cannons, consisting of Ryan Clapham (guitar), Paul Davis (bass/keyboards) and Michelle Joy (vocals), released their fourth studio album “Heartbeat Highway” on November 10, 2023.

The album comprises 12-track and marks their first collaborations with co-writers and producers in Jason Evigan, Tyler Spry, Mike Elizondo, Mikky Ekko, and Jenn Decilveo on select tracks.
The songs on the album were written and produced while touring across the US, Japan, and Australia.
The band frontman Michelle Joy said of the album, “The highway of life starts and ends with the most beautiful music in the world, a heartbeat. It's a rhythm so strong the only right thing to do is to follow it wherever it may lead. For us, that rhythm has led to the creation of our 4th album Heartbeat Highway, which is inspired by the many roads we have traveled over the past few years of touring and following our hearts as a band and individuals. We invite you to embark on a soul stirring journey through the intricacies of love, desire, heartbreak, and passion with us and hope you love it as much as we loved making it for you!”
  • The band shared on social media, “We put our entire heart and souls into making this record and hope you love it a much as we loved making it for you. Dedicating this one to every single one of you who have continued to uplift and support us, allowing us to do what we love to do most, light up the darkness with music that ignites a fire inside of us and makes our hearts beat faster. Love you from the bottom of our hearts.”

  • Cannons explained about some tracks for the album.

“From the beginning, fans have told us how much they love to drive to our music and we've spent a lot of time on the road. So 'Heartbeat Highway' ties our experience to the way that people like to listen to our music. It's the idea that you're not sure when you're gonna see each other again, but like we will have this last night together to hang out and it feels like an anthem for that special relationship. But the song is also a nod to the relationships people have with others because I definitely want everyone to have their own experience with it in their own way.”

    “Loving You” via LA Weekly
“'Loving You' is a song that we decided to dedicate to our fans because, after a year of touring, we did about four tours last year, we did meet-and-greets every single time, and we got to meet all of our fans face to face and hear their stories,” Joy says. “We were moved every single day by how much our music has affected people. So the lyrics to that song are expressing the love for our audience, for touring, for being on the road, for waiting for the night to come so we can dance together, sing together, forget about all our problems, and come together. It's been a very moving experience to see the diversity in our crowd. Cannons fans are all ages, races, genders, ethnicities, sexes, everything, coming together to one place and all connect on such a deep level. That has moved me more than anything has moved me in my entire life. It's really special. That's what 'Loving You' represents to us.”

    “Bad Tattoo”
“'Bad Tattoo' is a song about life-changing moments that define us and how we hold the power to turn emotional scars into art. It's about owning your entire story, specifically the painful moments, even if they leave a permanent mark or an emotional scar similar to a tattoo. It's in those times that we are invited to stop, pay attention, and take stock of our life, its meaning, and purpose. 'Bad Tattoo' is about choosing not to cover up those moments or feel shame, and instead, loving them because they are a part of your story and made you who you are.”

    “Desire”
“Desire is a late night smoking gun of a track filled with a shimmery crystal haze of melodies strewn together while exploring the complexities of the most primal of human drives, desire and its all consuming power. This track was inspired by some of our favorite artists we had been listening to at the time who sparked a fire in us while writing including: Psychedelic Furs, Gerry Rafferty, Madonna and Fleetwood Mac. We highly suggest you play this song in your car, full blast, windows down and find relief and magic in the power of desire. We love you all so much and hope you enjoy this song as much as we do.”
