Malade Releases New Song “Give Up”
Montreal-based singer-songwriter Camille Brown, aka Malade released a new song “Give Up” on September 29, 2023.
The song follows the single “My Energy”, a bouncy, boastful track that explores the aplomb of knowing one's worth.
The track was written and produced by Camille Brown and co-produced by Damien Muller.
For Malade, the song is most earnest girlpop attempt, and R&B groove meets crafty pop in this playful, maximalist endeavor.
The track exudes post-breakup acrimony, which Malade's vocals express almost as a mockery.
Malade explained, “I’m on the other side of a time where I had to let go of some relationships that weren’t serving me. The hyperfeminine pop persona that emerged from that pain was almost like a guardian angel, or a shield to me. The next few releases from this project really reflect that sugar coated, lacquered coping.”
- Malade said of the song, “Unfortunately for me and many incredible people out there, we have dated some very run of the mill, mediocre men. 'Give Up' is a ridiculously earnest break-up song. I wanted to push the revenge-pop agenda with this one and really lean into girlishness, feelings of betrayal and disgust.”
She continued, “This track has gone through more rewrites out of anything I've ever put out. I usually give up (pun not intended) on songs that take this much time to crack, but something about this one made me come back to it over and over. It was kind of like a puzzle I couldn't finish and it was driving me mad. Now that it's (somewhat) finished, I hope you enjoy it as much I do!”
