Griff Premieres New Song “Vertigo” on BBC Radio 1
British singer-songwriter Griff is back. She premiered a new song “Vertigo” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Jack Saunders on August 31, 2023.
The song is her first music since the collaborative single “Head on Fire” with Norwegian singer-songwriter Sigrid, which was released last January.
The track was written by Sam Tsang and Sarah Griffiths. Produced by Griff and Sam Tsang.
“’Vertigo’ refers to an emotional state - always feeling upside down,” Griff said of the song. "Experiencing love and growing up, it always feels like the world and my emotions are spinning faster than I can keep up with. ‘Vertigo’ is the beginning of a new creative chapter for me, and I’m excited for us all to go on this journey together.”
- Griff told Jack Saunders about the song, “I've basically in between tours had to just take myself away in the middle of nowhere and try and write songs. And that's what I'm about to go I did that after that. It's actually it was Imogen Heap's house and it has this massive spiral staircase in the middle of it and I think that's what ended up subconsciously inspiring the lyric 'vertigo'” .
She continued, “I think I ended up writing about the word vertigo, more on an emotional level. Like when you think about the world spinning really fast and always feeling about upside down. I think that's kind of the context that I used vertigo on this song.”
She added, “It definitely adds tension. I think I view the song. I've always thought of it like a roller coaster and it feels like it's always building and there's this sense of tension and anxiety. And then it like crescendos at this massive bridge and then release it. So it's definitely like an emotional whirlwind.”
