Toronto-based singer-songwriter Yalene has dropped a new music video for “Best Thing Ever” filmed by Emily Zhu.
The song is included on her debut EP “En Route”, which was released on July 7, 2023.
The track was written by Yalene Sivaparamanantha. Produced by her long time collaborators Santhoshblur, and Saint Nick.
Yalene said of the song, “Pouring out from a deeply vulnerable place, 'Best Thing Ever', is a fierce alternative r&b, pop track that details the realization of being in love for the first time. It depicts a cautious, guarded girl coming to terms with the deep feelings she feels for her partner and the fear her faith and devotion to him brings about.”
She continued, “The romantic, calm lead single from my first summer EP uses cinematic treatments on hip-hop beats, haunting synths, and chilling vocals to capture the elusiveness of an everlasting first love.”- The debut EP comprises 4-track, written by Yalene Sivaparamanantha. Produced by Santhoshblur and Saint Nick.
The EP is a collection of intimate songs she has written about the realization of being in love for the first time, its challenges and finally heartbreak.
Yalene said of the EP, “The four songs (including Best Thing Ever) chronicle my coming of age since age 17 and the transition into my 20s. Over the years, I would record little thoughts and melodies on my phone that came to me while in the shower, commuting to school, watching a movie, or most commonly while driving (after I've pulled over to the side ofc). Some of the songs were written when I was a teenager and finished in the last couple of years.” -
She continued, “En Route truly is a project about coming into my own. It takes you on a journey of falling in love for the first time to feeling lost in heartbreak. The songs tell stories of relationships that are more than the fun of it all, disillusions of “perfectly-fit” people (very virgo of me) and the hopelessness in the loss of love. It's everything that's me in the most honest way. I've been performing these songs in the past year throughout Toronto and I'm so excited to finally put it out for the summer of 2023!!”
