Nao Premieres New Song “Balance” featuring Skillibeng on BBC Radio 1
British singer-songwriter Nao premiered a new song “Balance” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Jack Saunders on August 1, 2023.
The song is her first music in two years since the 2021 third studio album “And Then Life Was Beautiful”.
This time, she teamed up with Jamaican rapper Skillibeng on the track.
The track was written by Neo Joshua, Ajay Bhattacharyya, Emwah Warmington, Omega, Soaky Siren, and Dayyon Alexander. Produced by Omega and Stint.
Nao told Jack Saunders about the song, “Absolutely, I had so much fun. It's really different for me the sound and I just wanted to just have fun and just kind of experiment explore and I really think like people that listen to our music are gonna be like, 'What?', a good way. I just always think it's important for us to explore push their boundaries.”
- She continued, “Basically, my family from the Caribbean and in this next record, I just wanted to explore like elements of the Caribbean but in my, I don't know, abstract ways, I guess. Not necessarily going like straightaway reggae or who might do, but I just wanted to do like abstract ways. And then bring into Skillibeng, you know, it's kind of hold on home. So it's nice to go back to Jamaica to shoot a video and also got to see some fan. I made the song actually in LA with some of my favorite humans. The songwriters, Soaky Siren and Dayyon Alexander and the producers Stint and Omega, who just brought this song to life.”
She added, “You got it like it's just a really fun song about you know, for me anyway, like, we all have different boundaries and like what works for us in life and for me at the moment like balance is so important. And so I wanted to just write a really fun song about it. Skillibeng first. I was like I told him what it was about, I think is very different than mine.”
