  • Sammy Rae & The Friends Releases New Song “Closer to You”

  • American singer-songwriter Sammy Rae and her band The Friends released a new song “Closer to You” on January 20, 2023.

The song is the follow-up to “Believe”, which was released last November.
It was written by Sammy Rae and produced by Sammy Rae & The Friends. The band recorded the song at Flux Studios NYC.
“Depending on how you look at it, this is a sad song. (But I think we're ready for that, and so are you.),” Sammy Rae said of the song. “It's a song for the kids whose roommate immediately forgot about them after college.”
She continued, ”The kids whose ex's immediately fell deeply in love with someone else. The queer kids who didn't get to tell their best friend they were in love with them before it was too late. The musical theater kids who also loved Circa Survive and Coheed And Cambria.”
She added, “What happens when you grow apart from your whole world, and you both end up fuller and better people without each other? How do you reconcile that with the good times? I'm very excited about this song.”

American singer-songwriter David Crosby, who was known as member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, died on January 18, 2023, at the age of 81.
Sammy Rae shared about David Crosby on her social media, “I was making a folk record (with a project hugely inspired by CSN) in 2018 at the same time as David Crosby. We crossed paths a bit. One night he came in the lobby asking if anyone had any candy, I offered him my sour skittles. (He was really intrigued by those.) Next thing I knew we were alone in the kitchen, he took his leftovers out of the fridge and told me 'get yourself a fork'. He asked me about my dreams and my music over cold macaroni. He listened to me sing a few of my songs, right there. My band mates came upstairs and Croz walked away from his session to listen to us play our music on his guitar for over an hour. We talked and toked and shared stories for the rest of the night. Before we left, he looked me in the face and said 'I think you should quit your day job.'
I did. Then The Good Life EP was born.
Thank you Croz, for changing my life. Your generosity is abundant. We'll always have the music, but you'll be sorely missed. 🤍 ✌️”
