  • Caroline Polachek Announces New Album “Desire, I Want To Turn Into You”, Shares New Song “Welcome To My Island”

  • American singer-songwriter Caroline Polachek announced her new album “Desire, I Want to Turn Into You” would be released on February 14, 2023 via Perpetual Novice.

It is her first album in four years since the 2019 album “Pang”. Also, it is the sophomore project under her real name.
From the album, she unveiled the fourth single called “Welcome To My Island” on December 5, 2022, following “Bunny Is a Rider”, “Billions” and “Sunset”.
The track was written by Caroline Polachek, Daniel Nigro, and Jim-E Stack.
Produced by Daniel Nigro, Caroline Polachek, Danny L Harle, and Jim-E Stack.
Caroline Polachek said of the song, “Wrote this song with Daniel Nigro back in 2018 when I was still making Pang. It obviously didn't belong there though, it was too bratty and stupid (if you know me you know that's a compliment) but i knew it was the start of something new. And now, as track one on Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, it literally is. Turns out the album title was hiding in there all along.”
  • She continued, “This song was a puzzle, it went through a million versions to arrive at maximum brat mode. To be the worthy soundtrack for an epic walk of shame, where you have mascara all over your face as the sun is coming up and you own the fucking world and haven't yet discovered you've lost your house keys.”
She added, “At one point I decided chorus three needed to be interrupted by a guitar solo, sang the melody to Dan, and he handed me his guitar. I said “you know i can't play guitar” and he said “whatever just figure it out” and made a devilish smile. So that's me playing the dogshit guitar solo, I still can't play guitar.”

  • Caroline Polachek told Zane Lowe of Apple Music, “While I was writing this song, I almost saw this from a point of view of egg trapping the sperm. It's maniacal, huge ego...This is the brattiest song I've ever made. I needed to go full brat rant mode. I don't think attitude wise I've ever really gotten to tear into this feeling of conflict and frustration. The record is dealing with catharsis and repression a lot. And I think setting up that tension on track 1 was part of the mission statement.”
