London-based rock band Ghosts of Our Former Selves, consisting of Theo Brehony (vocals), Fred Ala (producer) and Sanderson Rocha (guitar), released a new EP “Golden” on August 5, 2022.
Originally, the song “Golden” is included on their 2021 second album “Night Church” as the final track.
The band frontman Theo Brehony wrote the song with Sanderson Rocha, Jonny Wengrowe and Fred Ala when his first son was born.
Theo Brehony said, “I met my wife a few years later, and I was about to become a dad. I decided to raise him just as my mother had with me. You need to remember those emotions and unfiltered moments and recreate them whenever you can. I'm doing it all again – my son is the golden boy now…”
The impact of fatherhood has been a powerful thing for Ghosts of Our Former Selves, and the release of the new EP is a reflection of that.
The EP comprises 4-track, including the original version of "Golden", a remix version by GOOFS and Chicky, an acoustic version and a cover of Paul Simon's "Mother and Child Reunion".
Theo Brehony said, “We felt that the addition of strings to the song took it to the '70s in a way we had not achieved before. This is one of the best songs we've written, and the strings add to the emotion. By the time it ends we are somewhere between Massive Attack and Elton John!”- source : Apple Music
