  • Sparxsea Premieres New Music Video for “Little Wooden Boat” featuring Holly Martin

  • American singer-songwriter Sparxsea premiered a new music video for “Little Wooden Boat” on May 15th.

The video features footage from solo-sailor Holly Martin’s journey around the world in her 27 foot sailboat, Gecko.
The song is the first single off of Sparxsea’s upcoming debut album “On the Sea”.
“I wrote "Little Wooden Boat" about 10 years ago while living inland, never having stepped on a sailboat in my life,” Sparxsea told Cruising World. “I was inspired to sing about how imperfections, spontaneity and freedom should be embraced even if they create a space “as big as the sea” around us. Everyone who’s out there on their own wonders if they’ll be alright sometimes, but they keep going onward with their expedition despite the unknowns.”
Sparxsea is also a sailor, who completed her 16-hour ASA course and sail frequently in Penobscot Bay, Maine.
She met Holly Martin in Portland, Maine, on the boat of a mutual friend who is also sailing around the world.
She said, “Her solo journey is exactly what this song embodies, and she is doing it right now as I work on my debut album “On the Sea”, so everything just lined up in a cool way. I’m excited that we were able to collaborate on this fun project!”
She co-produced the album with Will Holland and Will Bradford. The album is expected to be released later this year.
  • Meanwhile, Holly Martin plans to launch next trip at the end of May. She told Sailuniverse in an interview, “I’m currently in the Las Perlas Islands. They’re an archipelago off the Pacific coast of Panama. I’m planning on making the passage to French Polynesia at the end of May. The Pacific is finally starting to open up again from the COVID scare. I’ll hopefully get to New Zealand by October, where I will officially finish the circumnavigation that was started when I was born. My long-term plan is to circumnavigate solo. So far, I’ve done all my sailing from Maine to here solo, and I’m excited to continue the trend.”
