Daya Premieres New Music Video for “Safe”
- Last month American singer-songwriter Grace Martine Tandon, aka Daya released a new song “Safe” from her upcoming sophomore album.
On July 18th, a music video for it was premiered exclusively on Refinery29. The track was written by Laleh Pourkarim, Joel Little and Daya.
She wrote the song after the 2017 shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas;
“I was thinking how sad and crazy it is that these things happen so often now, they don’t even affect us the same way anymore, I wanted look at why we’re so numb and why we haven’t done more to stop this sort of violence, but I also wanted to address that on a very personal level. It ended up becoming a song that looks back on the past, and asks why we can’t all feel as safe as when we were younger."
She went on to detail the things in her life that make her feel safe. Along with mentioning her family, playing guitar and eating mashed potatoes, Daya mentions that one of the things that makes her feel safe is being with her girlfriend, who makes a brief, romantic appearance in the announcement video.
She said of the video;
"I want my song 'Safe' to be an invitation to start a positive dialogue in a world in need of compassion. Let’s uplift each other, create your own version of what safe means to you.”
