The 1975 Premieres New Song “Part Of The Band” on BBC Radio 1
British pop rock band The 1975, consisting of Matty Healy (vocals/guitars/keyboards), Adam Hann (guitar), Ross MacDonald (bass), George Daniel (drums), premiered a new song “Part Of The Band” along with a music video on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The song is the first single off of their upcoming fifth studio album “Being Funny in a Foreign Language”, which is set to be released on October 14, 2022.
It was written by Matthew Healy, George Daniel and Jamie Squire. Produced by Matthew Healy and George Daniel.
Matthew Healy told Clara Amfo about the song, “I think like the first song normally, it makes sense of itself because there's normally a song, if you go back look at that. Obviously, people give self trying to love me. If they didn't come first, they wouldn't have really made sense at another time. They were kind of like the starting statement. This is our most consistent record as a record, like so. It was almost even harder to choose the chronology of the singles because it's it's almost more one thing the previous records were and so it was just we wanted to maybe like set the tone and kind of like we went didn't want to come up and do anything to flash, something that we were really into, but it's a 75 record.”- 87nG3LuabUs
He continued, “It was kind of direct lived George sent for it took us a while to write this record and it was written in lots of different kinds of guises. It was that our previous records I'm gonna take the semester off and have to feel like an idiot. So we basically had lots of different songs in lots of different styles. For example, 'Part Of The Band' being one of them, and some southern and then, when we decided, like what George said when we establish the rules of what this album was, then we could kind of pick the songs just based on songs. And part of the band was very different stylistically to this, whatever this is, I don't know. So often, we'd say but there was a it was it was comprised of a couple of different ideas and we didn't want to try and hide that to be in the production and stuff like that. And part of it was recorded in the UK and then part of it was recorded in New York.”-
The new album comprises 11-track. It is their first album in two years since the 2020 album “Notes on a Conditional Form”.
Matthew Healy told Apple Music, “With [2020's] Notes on a Conditional Form, because of the time we came from and what we've been doing as a band, we'd maybe been taking what a band is as far as it can go. When we got to this album, we were like, 'Well, who are we? What are we? What makes us us?' We've all been having this conversation about how, in art, people now are really craving remarkable things that require as little technology as possible. That became an incentive for making the record like a captured moment as opposed to this construct. There was very little editing or there was very little anything apart from playing the songs with one another. Funnily enough, that made everything sound newer and more modern again.”
