  • Joy Crookes Premieres New Song “When You Were Mine” on BBC Radio 1

  • British singer-songwriter Joy Crookes premiered a new song “When You Were Mine” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Charli XCX.

The song is the third single of her upcoming debut album “Skin”, following “Feet Don't Fail Me Now” and “Skin”.
It was written by Eg White, Jonny Lattimer and Joy Crookes.
Joy Crookes told Charli XCX about the song, “This record is about my first boyfriend and I, and after we split up the world, I kind of encouraged him and we both really encouraged each other as it was our relationship to explore and being who we needed to be as people we're still friends to this day. And the song is about him getting into a relationship with another man, and you're proud of him. And just 20 to 21 influences of this, and it's also in Brixton because that's where they're both face but also Brixton is kind of like my dumping ground and always has been since my mom and grandma, that kind of area.”
She continued, “So I wrote this song as a kind of like, I'm proud of you. So, for my ex, and the influences, I would say like, this is a really weird one, but there's an amazing Nigerian artists with every Taylor (Ebo Taylor), and he always has this really messy kind of like, we're our sound. And I'm super inspired by him, and so that's the kind of, that's the vibe basically that's what, that's what I was going to production at which was done by blu ray, and it was so exciting to record a whole broad section.”
  • The debut album is set to be released on October 15, 2021.
She said of the album, “It was so much fun. I've always been super into live instruments in the front of this entire first album I have all sorts of amazing live instruments and players across the album. All the team, come on, the record is super personal, It's accessible, in the sense that it's some of the songs subjects and topics are difficult, but I think that I've made them into pop songs which I'm really proud of. And then I'd say it is colorful. It's, I don't play it safe and important in this album which I'm so proud of because I think that there's a lot of nerves and there's, there's a certain expectation with the first album. And I think that I really got to do what I wanted with this one I'm really proud of it. So that's how I feel about the album. There was a good.”
