German singer-songwriter Zoe Wees released her debut EP “Golden Wings” on May 21, 2021 via Capitol Records.
Zoe Wees shared on social media, “My debut EP Golden Wings is out now! These songs are autobiographical and very special to me, so I hope you enjoy it. My mom told me the one's who leave are looking down at us with golden wings, so that's why I called my EP 'Golden Wings' 🖤”
The EP comprises of 5-track, including preceding singles “Control”, “Girls Like Us” and “Ghost”. Produced by Nicolas Rebscher, Patrick Salmy and Ricardo Muñoz Repko.
She said of the EP, “Each song is autobiographical and very special to me. In a way, this EP was written as personal therapy, with each track helping to tackle my own mental health. I chose the title 'Golden Wings' to symbolize the feeling of 'security and strength.' These two things are the foundation from which hope can grow. I hope people can relate to my stories in their own way.”- 18D8kOjhHfE
She explained track-by-track for the EP.
“Control”
“The sickness (childhood epilepsy) was stronger than me, and left scars that have become part of my life. Accepting them has taken so much time, but they make me what I am today: a fighter.”
“Girls Like Us”
“For me, it was the hardest feeling to grow up in a world that you feel doesn't accept you. We all have insecurities, but this is what makes us beautiful.
We're walking through a world with blinded eyes, at the end of the day we all go to bed without make-up with the ugliest clothes and wake up with the messiest hair on earth.
It's not always good to think about how you look to the rest of the world. It's much more important to think about how you feel inside. It is not easy to call yourself beautiful but being confident helps you to accept and love yourself.”
“Hold Me Like You Used To”
“This is a song about losing someone you really love and feel close to. It's dedicated to my great grandmother, who sadly passed away. She was such a strong woman and the funniest person I knew, and I can still feel her great energy. She is my inspiration and I know she is still here.”
“Ghost”
“This song was written about letting someone get too close, even if you know they can hurt you. It's about the feeling of being vulnerable to that person in a way that could basically destroy your life. It was also written in one of my first writing sessions so it feels special to release it.”- source : Spotify
