Back in 2020, American R&B singer-songwriter SZA teased an unreleased song “Shirt” on social media. Also she teased the song at the end of her 2021 "Good Days" music video.
Two years later, she finally released “Shirt” along with a music video on October 28, 2022.
The track was written by SZA, Rodney Jerkins and Freaky Rob. Produced by Rodney Jerkins and Freaky Rob.
The accompanying video was directed by Dave Meyers. In the clip, SZA stars with LaKeith Lee Stanfield, who also appeared in the visuals for her 2021 “I Hate U.”
SZA talked to People about the song in 2021, “I'm always learning. 'Shirt' wasn't going to be included on the album. It's always interesting to see what people gravitate toward and what they don't. And I think that teaches a lot about the human psyche and our culture at the same time. It's always a surprise for me, always on both ends, whether something is positively received or negatively received.”
She continued, “Sometimes what I like doesn't line up with other people and that is tricky, always tricky. You never know what people want to see. It's just a matter of how much you psych yourself up and do what you want to do no matter what anyone else wants to see. It takes a lot of willpower and energy.”- source : Apple Music
