  • Jeff Beck & Johnny Depp Release New Album “18”: Streaming

  • British rock guitarist Jeff Beck and American actor Johnny Depp teamed up to release their new collaborative album “18” on July 15, 2022.

The album comprises 13-track, including two Johnny Depp-penned originals and 11 covers of songs by Killing Joke, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, The Miracles, The Velvet Underground, The Everly Brothers and Janis Ian.
Jeff Beck first met Johnny Depp in 2016 and a friendship grew. In 2019, Jeff Beck joined in Hollywood Vampires', who is supergroup co-founded by Depp with Alice Cooper and Aerosmith's Joe Perry, album “Rise” and performed the guitar on “Welcome to Bushwackers”.
After the release of “Rise”, Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp started to record the new album. Over the next three years, they recorded a mix of Johnny Depp originals along with a wide range of covers that touches on everything from Celtic and Motown, to the Beach Boys and Killing Joke.
According to Jeff Beck, both of them would joke about how they felt 18 again during playing together, hence their decision for the album title.
Jeff Beck said, “When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity. We would joke about how we felt 18 again, so that just became the album title too.”
The cover features an illustration of Beck and Depp as 18-year-olds that was drawn and designed by Jeff Beck's wife Sandra.
  • Jeff Beck said of the album, “We were going to call the album 'Kitchen Sink' because we threw everything in it. The only game plan we had was to play songs we like and see where they took us. We suggested songs the other might not think of. It pushed both of us out of our comfort zones. Johnny got me excited about 'Venus In Furs,' and I persuaded him to try 'Ooo Baby Baby.' Interesting things happen when you're open to trying something different.”
Johnny Depp added, "It's an extraordinary honour to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother.”
The album is available on CD and digitally, with a 180-gram black vinyl version coming on September 30, 2022.
