Also Sam Tompkins's cover version accumulated 47 million views across his Instagram and TikTok.
Finally, Sam Tompkins released the full version of the song.
The original version of the song was released by Bruno Mars from his debut studio album “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” in 2010.
The track was written by Albert Winkler, Ari Levine, Bruno Mars, Jeff Bhasker, and Philip Lawrence. The cover version was produced by Steve Fitzmaurice.- Sam Tompkins said of the song, “A few years ago I covered this amazing song, I never expected it would change my life the way it did. I used to think that I couldn't claim any pride in a song that wasn't mine but since reposting my original video a year ago everyone around me has been telling me to release the full version, especially my Dad, who would remind me that some of the world's best songs are covers. This song is so wonderfully written by Bruno and I'm so grateful for that. Thank you to all the kind strangers on the internet for reminding me of who and what I am. I appreciate you all. My version of 'Talking To The Moon” is out Friday and I'm super excited to finally release it into the world. I can't wait for you to finally have it.”

Sam Tompkins shared on social media, “When I originally recorded this cover 3 years ago, I never had expected it would change my life the way it did. The video just went everywhere. Then came the remix and I guess when that happened, I started to feel like people probably didn't want or need the full version. I felt because it was someone else's song that I could never make it mine. I was even told by certain people who were part of the song that my part in the remix was replaceable and that 'I could be switched out at any moment' and that 'I should be gratefu' that I was even being considered in the first place. It made me feel worthless. I knew deep down it wasn't true, but as time went on and with everything around this cover and remix, I started to feel ashamed and embarrassed of it? almost like an imposter of the situation. Like cos I didn't write it, that I couldn't really claim any sense of pride in it.”
He continued, “Anyway, last year, I reposted the video of me singing it and it went even more viral than the first time. it blew my mind, all the comments saying 'oh my god we found the voice of the remix'. I started to feel like people really did want my own version and I wasn't just a replaceable singer singing someone elses words on one of the biggest songs in the world. Everyone around me would always tell me to release it, especially my dad. He always used to give examples of some of the worlds best songs being covers to try and convince me; Nina Simone's feeling good was originally performed in a musical before Nina put it on her album and made it iconic. Now I'm not comparing myself to Nina Simone by any means haha, but what I'm trying to say is sometimes covers can give songs a longer life so that new people can appreciate.”
He added, “This song is so wonderfully written by Bruno and I'm so grateful for that. Anyway when I posted it again this year and it went even more viral than it ever had before, I decided that was it and now it's coming out in less than 48 hours. Thank you to all the kind strangers on the internet for reminding me of who and what I am. I appreciate you all.” - source : Apple Music
