Swiss folk-pop singer-songwriter Mary Middlefield released a new song “Heart's Desire” on February 8, 2024.
The song is the third single since the 2023 debut album “Thank You Alexander”, following “Sexless” and “Atlantis”.
Also, the track will appear on her upcoming EP “Poetry (for the scorned and lonely)”, which is set to be released in April 2024.
The track details the horrors of statutory rape, manipulation, and grooming.
It was written by Anna Borkenhagen, Gwen Buord, and Maria Mitterfellner. Produced by Maria Mitterfellner and Gwen Buord. The accompanying live video was directed by Imogen Harrison.
Mary Middlefield said of the song, “This is a song about statutory rape and falling for a manipulative, inappropriately older man. There's nothing romantic about it, and it shouldn't be treated as such. It is common for young women to be preyed on by people with authority who not only use toxic methods to achieve their goals, but also project their desires, whether sexual or professional. I wanted to express how it feels to live through abuse and experience it first-hand in a song.
