Sampha Announces New Album “Lahai”, Premieres New Song “Only” on BBC Radio 1
London-based singer-songwriter Sampha Lahai Sisay, aka Sampha has announced his sophomore album “Lahai” will be released on October 20, 2023.
It is his first album in six years since the 2017 debut album “Process”.
The album comprises 14-track, featuring a guest appearance from Léa Sen, and was named the album title after his paternal grandfather.
From the album, he premiered a new song “Only” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The song is the second single off of the album, following “Spirit 2.0” released back in June.
It was written by Pablo Díaz-Reixa and Sampha Sisay. Produced by Sampha and El Guincho.
The accompanying music video was directed by Dexter Navy.
- Sampha told Clara Amfo about the song, “I feel like it's probably one of the more like direct songs on my album. And it kind of sticks out, I think. I don't know if it's like, the necessarily like the direction that people would be expecting from me the after releasing 'Spirit 2.0', So song, really like lyrically I think I'm like expressing something that's kind of like, slightly different or the crux of the record. So, just thought it'd be like a good tune to that happening.”
He said about how fatherhood changed his perspective on the music he was making, “I mean, changed dramatically. Definitely influenced, like my writing and the way around what I'm writing about. And it's taken a while for me to even be able to like really reflect on how it's affected me, but just because it's like being apparently sorry involved like you sometimes you can't even life changes and you can't even remember like how it was before. But it has been it's been especially experiencing, what's cool is like, I have a bit of a document for my daughter as well. And she was also like, she recognizes what I'm talking about as well.”
