Devon Cole Releases New Song “W.I.T.C.H.”
- Toronto-based singer-songwriter Devon Cole released a new song “W.I.T.C.H.” (an acronym for “Woman in Total Control of Herself”) on July 7, 2022.
The song is her first single under a major label Arista Records.
It was written by John Mark Nelson, Devon Cole and Alexandra Soumalias. Produced by John Mark Nelson.
Devon Cole said of the song, “To me, 'W.I.T.C.H.' is a song that reclaims the witch as a symbol of women's resistance. It celebrates women's strength, autonomy, and rebellion – traits that contradict the patriarchal idea of what a woman should be and how she should behave. Some say that witches were the original resistance fighters, healers, abortionists, and there was and is a great deal of paranoia around that. This song is basically poking fun at the idea that a woman in control of herself – her body, her sexuality, her beliefs – is such a scary thing.”
- Devon Cole has reached the precipice of a major breakthrough. She has amassed millions of streams on her 2021 independent project “Party For One” , as well as singles such as “Uncall It”.
She signed to Arista Records this year. “We are proud to be working with the multi-talented Devon Cole, whose music stands out for its originality and empowering and inspiring lyrics,” says Arista president and CEO David Massey. “Devon has already developed a strong and rapidly growing following and we are excited for her first Arista release, 'W.I.T.C.H.'”
