Dermot Kennedy Premieres New Song “Better Days” on BBC Radio 1
- Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy premiered a new song “Better Days” alongside a music video on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Annie Mac.
The song is his first solo music since “Giants”, which was released last Ocotober. Also it follows up a collaboration song “Paradise” with Mediza.
The track was written by Dermot Kennedy and produced by Dan Nigro. He wrote the song in February, during COVID-19 pandemic.
Dermot Kennedy said of the song, “This is a song about patience. It's about believing in something brighter, and never losing sight of better days, no matter how hard things might get. In a time where so many people feel worried and exhausted, I would love for this song to remind even one person that things will improve. As an artist, I feel somewhat responsible to try to make people feel a little better, whether that's making them think of someone they love, or just taking their mind off their problems for the length of a song. So this is my contribution to hopefully providing some people with a moment's solace. Better days will come.”
He told Annie Mac about the song, “This one, wrote it around February, I think, in a selfish way, it almost felt as if it was someone speaking to me say, eight years ago when I had nothing going on, and so felt a bit dead, and it became a bit frustrated, you know, in the lyrics. I thought about fixing that, and I was just like, I don't know, we kind of we went through the wringer with it in terms of production, so there was a very safe version that was just piano and string, and then Dan Nybro in LA did a version, and it took me a second like I can't like, if he does happen upon the chat, I know now so I don't want to like, Yeah, but in that moment but I heard at first I was like oh man I was like this time here, right, I panicked, and I gotta say, I got there, now I can't hear it any other way. And also, it just feels nice to be a little bit nervous you know what I mean, I know the old version, whoever was into my music already would love it and it would be a nice thing we'd all enjoy it together but this version makes me a little bit uncomfortable and I like that.”
He embarks on UK and Ireland Tour this fall. The tour kicks off at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on September 6, 2021 and will conclude at Alexandra Palace in London on September 25.
