Childish Gambino Releases New Album “Bando Stone and The New World”
American singer-songwriter Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino released his sixth studio album “Bando Stone and the New World” on July 19, 2024 via RCA Records.
The album is the follow-up to the 2020 album “3.15.20”, which was re-released as the finished version back in May.
Also, it is the final album under the Childish Gambino moniker.
Additionally, the album is the soundtrack of his upcoming film “Bando Stone and The New World”.
The album comprises a 17-track, featuring guest appearances from Chlöe, Amaarae, Flo Milli, Fousheé, Jorja Smith, Legend Glover (his 8-year-old son), Khruangbin and Yeat.
Produced by Dahi, Donald Glover, Ludwig Göransson, Oscar Holter, Khruangbin, Steve Lacy, Max Martin, Kurtis McKenzie, Michael Uzowuru, and Dylan Wiggins.- Donald Glover told Zane Lowe of Apple Music about the album, “The album has a lot of sincerity. And I'm 40, I got three kids. Like I'm not trying to be for anybody anymore it's too much work. I have to pick the kids. I have to make chia seed pudding so they have something to eat in the morning. Like I don't I think that the idea of like, Oh, they're trying to do this to get this I'm like, sincerity is like completely is very undervalued. I understand that. But also music is undervalued and I feel like the it's got to start somewhere. I'm not saying like, Oh, you have to make people value. It's an open market. But you got to make valuable things you just got to make them and I feel like this is very valuable stuff.”
- Basically, the new album is the soundtrack. The film was directed by Childish Gambino, starring Donald Glover, Jessica Allain and Legend Glover.
Donald Glover said of the film, “I've been wanting to make this movie for years. It's kind of crazy because when the soundtrack came out, a friend of mine, Alma, she's a director. She hit me just like you told me about this movie 10 years ago. And I was like, I forgot like I've had this in my head since like, probably 'Community Days'. And I just didn't have the time. And now I have time that's part of the like I have to finish this to make sure that this happens. So it is a movie. When it comes out, it's the hard part like just making sure because also that structure of like making big movies is changing too. So like I just gotta make sure it comes out, it's done in the right way.”
He continued, “The soundtrack forces the audience to participate in a way that I don't feel like most things force you to participate. It forces you to have an imagination. I already see people being like, 'This is very cinematic, this must be the part that... This feels like a credit sequence.' A lot of stuff feels flat because it's not asking you to participate. Art used to be you had to participate on some level and have some sort of thought process on it. You can't just be like, 'Oh, this is mid.'”
He added, “I remember seeing the ending of The Sopranos and being like, 'I feel very content.' And I know some people didn't feel that way, but I remember watching it. It's like, 'Man, I have to make something that makes people okay with an ending like that.'”
Also, the sound of the album is geared for his upcoming stadium tour.
Donald Glover said, “For this album, I really wanted to be able to play big rooms and have big, anthemic songs that fill those rooms.” - source : Apple Music
