Remi Wolf Performs at NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert
American singer-songwriter Remi Wolf appeared on NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert to perform 5 songs “Toro”, “Alone in Miami”, “Sexy Villain”, “Motorcycle”, and “Pitiful”.
This marks her second appearance on Tiny Desk Concert since 2023, having performed with American DJ Kenny Beats.
But this is her first performance as a solo artist.
Remi Wolf said, “I've been watching tiny desk since I was a little tiny 15-year-old child and truly what a blessing, oh my God I'm going to cry.”
“Toro”, “Alone in Miami”, “Motorcycle”, and “Pitiful” are featured on her latest album “Big Ideas”, which was released back in July.
“Sexy Villain” is included on her 2021 debut album “Juno”.- “Toro”
“I wrote 'Toro' and 'Alone in Miami' in the same week of sessions and in my mind, they have always been intended to be listened to back to back. I wrote both songs with my friends Ethan Gruska and Jack Demeo in LA in between tours in early 2022. To be frank, 'Toro' is a song about having sex in a hotel.”
“Alone in Miami”
“'Alone in Miami' is a song about the week I spent alone in Miami during Art Basel – and is quite literally a detailed and accurate description of what happened while I was there.”
“Sexy Villain”
“'Sexy Villain' I wrote with my power trio of my girly songwriters-Mary Weitz and Olivia Waithe. I wrote [2020's] 'Disco Man' with them, and 'Buzz Me In.' I trust them a lot; they understand me, and they understand where I like going lyrically. At the time, I was watching and listening to a lot of true crime. I was in a relationship, and I was constantly feeling like the bad guy-even though I wasn't, but that's where my anxiety takes me a lot of the time. The sexy villain is my alter ego, in a sense-or it was that day.” -
“Motorcycle”
“Lyrically, the song dives into this internal dichotomy I experience a lot in my life. One side of me is always wanting to slow down and settle down and be in love and be normal and have babies and sh*t, while the other, very forceful part of me needs to be restlessly independent and stubborn and free. The song is essentially a fantasy about me living in a reality where both sides of me can exist simultaneously... Secret lives of the wives of Harley Davidson type.”
“Pitiful”
“This song is called 'Pitiful' and it's about drinking too much.”
