British singer-songwriter Dua Lipa appeared on Saturday Night Live as the host and musical guest on May 4, 2024.
This marks her third appearance as musical guest on the sketch show since 2020 and her first time hosting.
She performed two songs “Illusion” and “Happy For You” from her latest album “Radical Optimism”, which was released on May 3, 2024.
She was introduced by Australian singer-songwriter Troye Sivan for “Illusion” and American comedian Jerry Seinfeld for “Happy For You”.
“Illusion” was released as the third single from the new album back in April. It was written by Dua Lipa, Kevin Parker, Danny L Harle, Caroline Ailin, and Tobias Jesso Jr.
Dua Lipa said of the song, “'Illusion' was the first song Caroline, Danny, Tobias, Kevin and I worked on together, and it really broke the ice for the record. It's about knowing what you're getting yourself into, but staying for the hell of it. The joke's on them, it's the fun of playing someone at their own game because ultimately you won't fall for an illusion.”- “Happy For You” is the 11th track on the album. It was written by the same writers as “Illusion”.
She said of the song, “It feels like a full 180. Maturing, seeing almost my ghost on the other side and being like, 'Wow, you've grown so much from an experience to be able to see things from that perspective. You have to be in the act of forgiveness and growing and learning and being OK with the past in order to move on. For me, 'Happy for You' is a beautiful, happy song because it's so reflective of my journey.” -
