Dream Wife Returns With Mew Song “Leech”
- London-based punk rock band Dream Wife, consisting of Rakel Mjöll (vocals), Alice Go (guitar), and Bella Podpadec (bass), returned with a new song “Leech” on November 9, 2022.
The song is their first music in two years since the 2020 sophomore album “So When You Gonna...”
“It was really important that 'Leech' was the first song we shared because it's such a heavy statement,” Rakel Mjöll told NME. “The lyrics are incredibly truthful and personal. It's a collective shared experience between the three of us, as we look backward as well as forwards.”
The track was written and produced by Rakel Mjöll, Alice Go and Bella Podpadec.
The accompanying music video was directed by Bethany Fitter.
The band shared on social media, “Just have some fucking empathy' - Leech is an anthem for empathy. For solidarity. Musically tense and withheld, erupting to angry cathartic crescendos. The push and pull of the song lyrically and musically expands and contracts, stating and calling out the double standards of systems of power. Nobody really wins in a patriarchal society. We all lose. We could all use some more empathy. As our first song to be released in a while, we wanted to write something that feels like letting an animal out of a cage. It's out. And it's out for blood…”
