MotoGP Malaysian GP: Francesco Bagnaia Takes Pole Position, Alex Marquez Wins Sprint Race in Sepang
The Round 18 of MotoGP 2023, PETRONAS Grand Prix of Malaysia took place at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit in Sepang on November 11, 2023.
In Qualifying, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) took his seventh pole position of the season, following Catalunya GP.
Jorge Martin was 2nd behind rancesco Bagnaia by just 0.058s. Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) adavanced to Q2 from Qi and was 3rd. It is his first front raw this year.
Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati), Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Ducati), and Marco Bezzecchi (Mooney VR46 Ducati) will start the second row, respectively.
Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) was 7th on the leading Fabio Quartararo (Red Bull KTM) and Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing).
Jack Miller adavanced to Q2 from Q1 along with Enea Bastianini and finished 10th.
Also, reigning World Superbike champion Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.It Ducati) will start his first MotoGP race since Valencia 2018 from 22nd.
In the Sprint Race, Alex Marquez took his second victory of the season, following British GP.
Jorge Martin was 2nd and Francesco Bagnaia was 3rd. This result marks Francesco Bagnaia leads Jorge Martin by just 11 points in World Championship standings.
Enea Bastianini was 4th and took his best result this year.
KTM riders Brad Binder and Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM) finished 5th and 6th, each.
Marco Bezzecchi, Johann Zarco (Pramac Ducati), Luca Marini, and Maverick Viñales rounded out the top 10.
Alex Marquez said, “I know that tomorrow we have a better chance because the race pace looks really good, but in the sprint I didn't expect to make that difference. I was expecting to be with the top riders, with Jorge and Pecco who was struggling a little bit more. I did everything perfectly, timed everything perfectly, so I'm really happy. We were struggling in the last races. People forget that I was injured and was coming back, but now we are here. We need to keep the level like this until Valencia.”
