Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Maya Donovan released a new song “Lenox” on July 13, 2023.
The song is the second single since the 2018 EP “Infested”, following “We Should Get Dinner” released back in May.
It was written by Maya Donovan, produced by Maya Donovan and Gabriel Leeman, and mastered by Kurt Dimmick.
Named after a small town in Massachusetts, this sweeping ballad recounts Maya Donovan's experiences of the weekend her sister went into long-term residential treatment for PTSD.
“At its core, the song is about trauma,” Maya Donovan said of the song. “It's about watching someone close to me suffer immensely and feeling helpless in the face of her pain.”- Maya Donovan shared on social media, “I wrote it years ago and it took a lot of work to figure out exactly how I wanted it to sound. It's about a lot of different things, mostly having to say goodbye to someone you love and not being sure if they'll come back to you in one piece.”
She added, “Cover art was painted by my magical friend Kate Awalt-Conley who actually breaks my brain with the stuff she creates.” -
