Toronto-based singer-songwriter Neela released a new song “Exposed” on September 9, 2022.
She first performed the song at the Underground Velvet in Downtown Toronto back in March.
The song is taken from her upcoming third EP of the same name, following “Tease”.
It was written by Neela, Akeel Henry, and Alvin Brendan. Produced by Akeel Henry and Kevin Ekofo.
Neela said of the song, “This song is the beginning of my process of sharing my insecurities, shame, and vulnerability. It expresses the feeling of being loved by someone fully and how I'm learning to love myself in this journey. It's raw, honest and bare.”
She continued, “I used to weigh 240 lbs. For most of my life, I've been scrutinized and bullied for my body size. Although my body went through a transformation, it also left stretch marks and loose skin. These experiences created a lot of insecurities and it's been a journey to accept and love my story, body, and identity. When I entered the music industry, I tried to hide most of my story and fit a narrative that wasn't true.”- dGQS1oqH-FI

She added, “I'm so used to writing breakup songs. 'Exposed' is really about experiencing a love that is gentle and kind, and how I'm learning to be that for myself.
The song has taught me the power that music has in healing. In taking my experiences and expressing some of the shame and pain I've held, I gained a sense of release and freedom from my past and making peace with it.”- source : Apple Music
