John Legend Performs U2's “Pride (In the Name of Love)” at E! People's Choice Awards
American singer-songwriter John Legend performed “Pride (In the Name of Love)” on E! People's Choice Awards at Barker Hangar in Los Angels.
At the Awards, in addition to John Legend, Nicki Minaj and Rita Ora made the stage.
“Pride (In the Name of Love)” was released by Irish rock band U2 in 1984 from their fourth album "The Unforgettable Fire".
It was written by Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen Jr, The Edge and Bono.
Originally Bono wanted to write a song about Ronald Reagan’s arrogant pride in his military power, which inevitably led to heightened nuclear tensions during the Cold War.
But after reading biographies on Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, he decided to focus on the pride ingrained in the causes of the African-American Civil Rights movement.
John Legend covered the song in 2008 on Barack Obama's album "Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement".- source : E! News
