American alt-pop singer-songwriter UPSAHL announced her sophomore EP “Young Life Crisis” will be released on October 30, 2020.
From the EP, she dropped a new song “MoneyOnMyMind” as the lead single on October 2nd.
She worked with Absofacto for the song. “[It] has nothing to do with actual money; it's a mindset,” UPSAHL explained of the song. “You can have all the money in the world and still be completely miserable, but to FEEL money as fuck, that's a whole other vibe. It's all about the glow up. After every weak moment, there's always a bounce back, and this song captures that feeling of getting on some new shit and hustling for the life you want.”
The accompanying music video was directed by George Gallardo Kattah. The clip is inspired from the 1999's film “Fight Club”.
She told PopCrush, “The director, George, and I based the whole video off of the aesthetic of Fight Club. In quarantine, I've been catching up on all the classic movies that I've never seen, and when I saw Fight Club for the first time a few months ago, my mind was blown. Since the song is about the mindset of money, I wanted to play two different characters: me and my ego, a.k.a. "The Mindset." This draws a lot of parallels between The Narrator and Tyler Durden in Fight Club, so we definitely drew inspiration from those characters.”- source : PopCrush
