  • Culture Wars Returns With New Song “Heaven”

  • Austin-based alt-rock band Culture Wars, consisting of Alex Dugan (vocals), David Grayson (drums), Dillon Randolph (bass), Caleb Contreras (guitar), Josh Stirm (guitar), returned with a new song “Heaven” on May 30, 2024.

The song is their first music in three years since the 2021 EP “Teche”.
It was written by Alex Dugan and Caleb Contreras. The accompanying music video was directed by Moyo Oyelola.

The band frontman Alex Dugan said of the song, “Caleb and I had decided to focus on writing songs with just a guitar and vocals, or a piano and vocals. If it wasn't good enough on its own with just two elements, we wouldn't get any further. We kept pushing ourselves again and again.”
  • He continued, “It became a daily ritual. I woke up, walked the long way across Bondi Beach to get coffee and breakfast, came back to my rental unit and logged onto Zoom to start writing with Caleb. For me it was 10am, but for him it was night. 'Heaven' was written in two parts, the verse in Bondi and the chorus after I moved units to Edgecliff. It was at that stage with just the guitar and vocals that we decided to move on.”

  • He added, “I lived alone in Sydney for about a year, chasing a girl I was (and still am) in love with. Finding my way in Sydney, not knowing anyone else, writing an album that didn't exist yet, literally meaning 'All I have is your love'. When I came back to the US, we started recording the album at United Recording and Sunset Sound. Finally finishing the vocals in Prince's old room at Sunset.”
