American alt-folk/rock singer-songwriter Scott Mickelson, aka Mickelson released a new song “Only Grey Matter Boiling In My Head” on January 11, 2023.
The song is the first music since his latest album “Known to Be Unknown”, which was released last April.
This time, he recorded the song with British rock band XTC's bassist Colin Moulding.
This collaboration was fostered by Colin Moulding's son Lee, who introduced his father to Scott Mickelson.
Also Lee Moulding has played the drums on Scott Mickelson's live band.
Scott Mickelson sent a rough sketch of the song to Colin Moulding, then he consequently added his own distinctive stylistics.- Scott Mickelson said of the song, “'Only Grey Matter Boiling In My Head' is a humorous song dealing with anger management issues. This theme of self depreciation shows up in my lyrics from time to time. I am also extremely honoured that Colin Moulding played bass. We had several chats about the song and he also offered some great production ideas.”
He continued, “I'd just written 'Only Grey Matter Boiling In My Head' and thought it would be a good fit as there are some unusual twists and turns in the song and to my mind, reminded me of XTC. We recorded the basic tracks and Lee sent it to Colin. I quickly received his bass track and was pretty blown away by it.” - source : Apple Music
