  • The Lighthouse And The Whaler Releases New Album “Talk”: Streaming

  • American alt-rock band The Lighthouse And The Whaler, consisting of Michael LoPresti, Mark Porostosky and Ryan Walker, released their fourth studio album “Talk” on October 22, 2021.
It is their first album in six years since the 2015 album “Mont Royal”.
The album comprises 10-track, including preceding singles “Way Back”, “Let It All Go”, “Stay With Me” and “Talk”.
The band started making the album in Los Angeles in 2018.
The band said of the album, “Talk is an album about reconciling the past and the future, in our small world that meant coming to terms with who we wanted to be while respecting our past but Talk really became about more than our little story. It's a record about all of us and how together we can be more if we not only talk but listen.”
Michael LoPresti said, “For me, our sound is more like a concept or an existential experience than it is a specific genre. If you have to boil it down that's fine, but I want it to be more than that: I want it to be a way of understanding oneself. I can find something about myself that I didn't realize was there, or I can go and feel emboldened to be the person that I want to be and am trying to be.”
He continued, “When we started the band, there was this sense of optimism and a carefree attitude. Sometimes that's when the best art is made – when you're not trying to make it for any other purpose than yourself. I thought that really stamped what this record is about: It just hits you in the face. It sets the tone for the whole record.”
  • Michael LoPresti told American Songwriter about the title track, “'Talk' is really a song that has so much impact on this record. It's a song about caring for one another and not changing who you are based on what other people want you to be. The song carries this idea about talking to one another and how we don't really do that all that well anymore. We're good at telling each other the ways in which were wrong but not as good at trying to understand why a person chooses to believe what they do. I believe if we treat each other with respect and spend the time to talk and listen we can find a way to care for one another and embrace the differences we have without losing who we are as individuals. That's the story the song “Talk” is trying to tell and why it became the title of the record too.”
