St. Vincent Premieres New Song “Pay Your Way in Pain”
- American singer-songwriter Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent premiered a new song “Pay Your Way in Pain” with an accompanying music video on March 4, 2021.
The song is the first single off of her upcoming seventh studio album “Daddy's Home”.
The track was written by St. Vincent and Jack Antonoff, who also produced it. The video was directed by Bill Benz.
“I'm just way more of the mind, especially now after everything that's happened in the last year, that I would just rather do a simple idea executed really well than a lot of ideas hodge-podged,” Annie Clark said of the video. “This is just a performance video of me singing a song, dancing and just doing everything in a very practical way. It was going in the same spirit as the music where it's just a performance. It's not got heavy-heavy production, but we just did it in the room to capture a moment.”
- The new album is set to be released on May 14th, featuring 14-track.
She said of the album, “I was inspired by the classic records of the 70s. Stevie. Sly. Stones. Steely Dan. Chords. Groove. The days when sophisticated harmony and rhythm didn't sound heady – they just sounded, and felt, good. Lots of guitar. But warm sounds, not distortion and chaos. Hopefully, a turn nobody will see coming. Daddy's Home collects stories of being down and out in downtown NYC. Last night's heels on the morning train. Glamour that's been up for three days straight.”
