Mary Akpa Releases New Song “A hurum gi n'anya (I do)”
Los Angeles-based Nigerian-American singer-songwriter Mary Akpa has released a new song “A hurum gi n'anya (I do)”.
The song will appear on her upcoming full-length debut album, which is expected to be released this spring.
The track was written by Mary Akpa and produced by Carey Clayton.
Mary Akpa Shared on social media, “'A Hurum Gi N’anya' is a vibrantly soulful and introspective ode to self love that encourages us to reflect on what love really means. Do you really love yourself? How do you know? What is proof of self love?”
She continued, “Diving deeper into my Nigerian roots has been transformative. And it’s an honor to share it with you. I hope this warms your heart like it heats up mine.”- Mary Akpa was born in Nigeria and raised in Southern California, she brings a seamless blend of soul, jazz, electronic, and African influences.
She debuted with EP “Brave” in 2012. Followed by, the second EP “Unseen” was released in 2016.
Her experience and identity as a Black, Nigerian-American woman plays a key role in her creativity and activism. As an artist committed to social change, Mary co-founded Naija Girl Tribe, a non-profit supporting Nigerian girls through mentorship, personal and career development, and peer-focused counseling. - source : SoundCloud
