Loryn Taggart Returns with New Song “Walls”
Montreal-based singer-songwriter Loryn Taggart returned with a new song “Walls” on July 31, 2024.
The song is her first music in nearly a year since the 2023 debut album “The Lost Art of Pulling Through”.
The track was inspired by emotions brought on from living with a boyfriend in the same dwelling as his last partner.
The entire process behind the song was created in living rooms. She wrote the song with Toronto-based songwriter duo Good Grief, Bryn McCutcheon and Kirstyn Johnson, over a Zoom meeting. Co-produced by Loryn Taggart and Howie Beck.
Loryn Taggart said of the song, “When I moved in with my boyfriend, I moved into a home that he had shared with his previous partner. I didn't think much of it at first, but it was in the air. The love that they shared, the memories created, I started to drive myself absolutely nuts about the idea of the fact that there was previous love in this house. It was an odd sting of jealousy, and as someone who doesn't really deal with jealousy it was a gross feeling. The ghosts of my boyfriend's past lived in the walls. 'If 'Walls' could talk...'”- She shared on social media, “I wrote this summer bop with Good Grief, a phenomenal songwriter duo out of Toronto. When we wrote this one I was STOKED about it but it had no place on my debut album. So I have been holding it close waiting for the right moment to release it after the album had its time.”
She added, “Walls was inspired by Kate Bush, Maggie Rogers and Talking Heads. Written in my stranger things era. Inspired by past pains and resentment towards strangers. I hope you dig the 80s vibe.” -
