James McVey Releases New EP “Letters Home”
British pop band The Vamps' guitarist James McVey released his sophomore EP “Letters Home” on July 19, 2024.
The EP is his first project since the 2023 EP “Manabi”.
When he was 15, he had released his first EP “Who I Am” before joining in The Vamps. Currently, the EP “Who I Am” was removed.
Last year, he said, “I did an EP when I was 15 and it was still on iTunes and I had to remove it because it was just atrocious.”
James McVey recorded the EP over a few weeks during The Vamps' tour.
The EP comprises a 6-track, produced by James McVey, Alex Stacey, and Moochie Muggins Mcvey Brittain.
James McVey said of the EP, “I am SO EXCITED to say that my second EP 'Letters Home' is out July 19th. I wrote and recorded this EP over a few weeks on tour a couple months ago. I had no plan to make this EP and no idea these songs would come to me on the road.”- He continued, “These songs mean so much to me and I'm over the moon that you're connecting with them. I'm planning the next few months of my life and pondering over the thought of playing a one off show, travelling and figuring out ways of meeting you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for breathing life into these songs.”

James McVey explained about some tracks for the EP.
“Hold On To The Times”
“I lost my grandad and lifelong family friend in the same weekend two years ago. I wrote this song for them. I'll never forget you both.”
“Thick & Thin”
“Thick and Thin is about my childhood friends. I wrote and recorded this song back stage and on the tour bus. This song means so much to me.
I really wanted to write about the feeling of being 15, 16 again in my hometown and those friendships I had with people growing up kind of before my music career started. I really was conscious that I wanted to symbolize a sense of almost like a driving song like a feeling of motion and movement and with the production we, I 'd like to think achieved that by the kind of rhythmatic guitar, the drums, the gang vocals. So that's kind of my upbeat harping back to my childhood on the South Coast song and it's been really nice to hear people have listened to it be able to relate to that from their own childhoods and friendships growing up.”
“State of Mine”
“State of Mine, the first track on Letters Home is all about that tightrope I often find myself traversing with my mental health. Some days I'm great, others I'm not. I wrote this with Alex Stacey in about 10 minutes before a show. We recorded both guitars live at the same time after that gig and that's what ended up on the record.”
