Ruel Covers Sixpence None the Richer's “Kiss Me”
Australian singer-songwriter Ruel released a cover of American pop rock band Sixpence None the Richer's “Kiss Me” on June 27, 2024.
The song is taken from his upcoming EP “Adaptations”, which is set to be released on August 2, 2024.
Also, the track is the first release under his new label Recess Records / Giant Music.
The original version of the song was released by Sixpence None the Richer from their self-titled third album in 1997.
The song was nominated for a Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the 42nd Grammy Awards.
The track was written by Matthew Preston Slocum. The cover version was produced by M-Phazes.
The accompanying music visualizer was directed by Juan Pablo Celis, who filmed at the Parroquia del Purísimo Corazón de María in Mexico City.
Ruel said of the song, “I've always found covers a hard task to tackle, it's a tricky balance to make sure you do justice to the original and put your own spin on it. For this 90's classic, I thought stripping it right back and keeping it simple was the best way to go.”
He added, “The baz luhrmann version of romeo and juliet is one of my GOATS so feel so lucky that we got to shoot something in the same church in mexico city.”- The new EP is a collection of cover songs. He said of the EP, “When the idea of an EP floated around, I immediately made a playlist of hundreds of songs that were either underrated gems or my fav hits and then paired up with M-Phazes to bring them to life. I'm so happy with what we came up with and I'm hyped to see what you guys think.”
