  • Gary Clark Jr. Drops New Music Video for “Maktub”

  • Last month, Austin-based blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Gary Clark Jr. announced his new album “JPEG RAW” would be released on March 22, 2024.

It is his first album in five years since the 2019 album “This Land”, which won Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
The album comprises a 12-track, featuring guest appearances from George Clinton, Keyon Harrold, Naala, Stevie Wonder and Valerie June.
The album title is an acronym for Jealousy, Pride, Envy, Greed, Rules, Alter Ego, Worlds.
Gary Clark Jr. said of the album “I don’t love having a mobile device. I miss being able to have more genuine interaction, looking someone in the eyes and learning something, getting a perspective. JPEG RAW is about showing the real and not the edit. We live in a world of edits, filters and redos. We only get one shot.”
  • He continued, “When the album sequencing was finished, the band and I realized that we’d made an album into a movie. That’s what I was going for sonically because that’s how the whole writing process played out. First, it’s about angst and confusion, the unknown. Next, it’s about looking at ourselves internally. And then it’s about what comes after: the hope and triumph.”
From the album, he released four songs as the EP “JPEG RAW Sampler”, including “Maktub”, “JPEG RAW”, “This Is Who We Are” featuring Naala, and “Hyperwave” on January 26, 2024.
On February 6, he dropped a new music video for “Maktub” directed by Martine Syms.
The track was written by Elijah Ford, Gary Clark Jr., Jacob Sciba, and Sama’an Ashrawi. Produced by Gary Clark Jr., and Jacob Sciba.
