Ed Sheeran Releases New Song “Boat”
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran released the second single called “Boat” from his upcoming fifth studio album “- (Subtract)” on April 21, 2023.
The song is accompanied by the Mia Barnes-directed music video.
Ed Sheeran shared on social media, “Boat is the first song I wrote and finished for Subtract, it's where it all began, and a good way to kick off the album.”
Also, he explained “The song is a metaphor for depression; a track that combats the struggles of feeling very low and not knowing how to break the cycle.”
The new album is set to be released on May 5, 2023. It is his final album of a set of records named after mathematical symbols.
He made the album with National's Aaron Dessner, London-based producer Fred again.., Max Martin, and Shellback.
The album comprises 14-track (deluxe version 18-track and deluxe vinyl edition 23-track).
- Ed Sheeran said of the album, “I had been working on 'Subtract' for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be. Then at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art.”
He continued, “Writing songs is my therapy. It helps me make sense of my feelings. I wrote without thought of what the songs would be, I just wrote whatever tumbled out. And in just over a week, I replaced a decade's worth of work with my deepest darkest thoughts.”
He added, “Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth. My best friend Jamal [Edwards], a brother to me, died suddenly and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter. I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety.”
