Captain Planet & Jimena Angel Team Up for New Song “Pambelé”
Los Angeles-based DJ Charlie Wilder, aka Captain Planet teamed up with Colombian singer-songwriter Jimena Angel to release a new song “Pambelé” on March 10, 2023.
Th song is taken from his upcoming fifth studio album “Sounds Like Home”, which is set to be released on June 9, 2023.
The uplifting Spanish lyrics speak about always moving forward, never looking backward, while fighting adversity.
Captain Planet said of the song, “I was staying in a tiny thatched roof hut in the jungle by the side of the Guachaca river, making beats on my laptop with headphones in preparation before meeting up. This beat was one of the first ones I played Jimena and immediately she got the vibe and we started to jam. The song had a triumphant and empowering feel, and then somehow we locked into chanting the name 'Pambelé', who is an iconic Afro-Latin boxer, born in Palenque, who holds a stature similar to Muhammad Ali for many Colombians.”- After a huge year of travelling in 2022, playing DJ sets in more than 30 cities across 10 countries, Captain Planet dove back into the studio to create his 5th and most ambitious album to date “Sounds Like Home”.
The album comprises 15-track, featuring collaborator appearances from Henry D'Arthenay, Taj Bethel, El Din, Chico Mann, Shungudzo, Tagua Tagua, Jimena Angel, Zuzuka Poderosa, Raphael Futura, and Maiya Sykes.
Charlie Wilder said, “The basic concept was to make a record like the ones I constantly pull off my shelves at home and play on the weekends.
