Barbadian singer-songwriter Rihanna returned with a new song “Lift Me Up” on October 28, 2022.
It is her first music in six years since the 2016 album “Anti”.
The song is the lead single off of Marvel Studios' upcoming film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack.
Back in July, Marvel Comics released the EP “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Prologue” for the film. The soundtrack follows up the EP.
It was written by Temilade Openiyi, Robyn Fenty, Ryan Coogler, and Ludwig Göransson. Produced by Ludwig Göransson, and Kuk Harrell.
The accompanying music video was directed by Autumn Durald Arkapaw.
Songwriter Temilade Openiyi said of the song in a statement, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I've lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. The film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is based on the Marvel Comics character Black Panther. It is the sequel to the 2018 film “Black Panther”.
The film was directed by Ryan Coogler, starring Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Dominique Thorne, Florence Kasumba, Michaela Coel, Tenoch Huerta, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett.
The film is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2022.
Also, Rihanna is prepping for her fourth annual Savage X Fenty fashion show which will feature Anitta, Burna Boy, Don Toliver, and Maxwell as performing artists.
