Donate to support families affected by the crisis in Ukraine ➔ Major Lazer & Major League DJz Team Up for New Song “Koo Koo Fun” featuring Tiwa Savage & DJ Maphorisa
American EDM trio Major Lazer, consisting of Diplo, Walshy Fire and Ape Drums, joined forces with South African DJ duo Major League DJz to release a new song “Koo Koo Fun” on September 23, 2022.
Major Lazer and Major League DJz recruited Nigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage and South African DJ DJ Maphorisa on the track.
Marking Major Lazer’s first new music since last year, the track pulls from Amapiano, a South African style of house music that emerged in 2012 and is descended from the South African house genre kwaito and Afrobeats. The sound itself is a hybrid of deep house, jazz and lounge music characterized by synths, airy pads and wide percussive basslines.
The track was written by Thomas Wesley Pentz, Banele Mbere, Tiwatope Savage, Mikkel Eriksen, Tor Hermansen, Themba Sekowe and Michael Collins Ajereh.
